Projects and practical experience

Six Aichi aerial work platforms

Six existing aerial work platforms converted to 700 V DC

Project type: realized electrification and system integration · Van den Berg, Joure

For Van den Berg, EPowerOne converted six Aichi SR123 aerial work platforms from diesel to a battery-electric version with a 700 V DC system. The existing machines form the basis; drive, energy supply, and control have been realigned.

In collaboration with Pierik Techniek / Hydrauliek24, we integrated the electrical and hydraulic technology. The realized version combines a 22 kW servo motor with a 64.5 kWh high-voltage battery pack. The hydraulics have been optimized and coupled to a specially set and programmed drive.

Our work included battery integration, high-voltage distribution, charging technology, control, installation, and commissioning. The control system adjusts the drive to the requested work and limits unnecessary pump and drive power during waiting times.

The machines operate electrically on the construction site. The practical experience from this series has deepened our knowledge of DC-DC charging, battery management, servo control, and hydraulic optimization. We use this coherence for subsequent retrofit and development assignments.

Spierings AT598 and EPowerPack

Own mobile energy for electric hoisting

Project type: realized energy supply and integration for the crane superstructure

For a Spierings AT598 mobile tower crane, EPowerOne has realized a custom solution with its own mobile EPowerPack and a servo-hydraulic drive for the superstructure. This means energy storage and electric work functions have been developed as a single application.

This case shows two sides of our work: designing and building a mobile battery system ourselves and making that system work with existing heavy equipment. Available power, duty cycle, control, and recharging options together determine the deployment.

Hoisting on-site and driving on the road are separate functions. The electrical solution described here concerns the superstructure. Additional technology for the drive motor falls within the collaboration with AtomicOne.

The experience with this application forms a basis for new designs for heavier equipment and mobile energy supply.

Bergnet

Large solar projects at business locations

Project type: realized commercial solar power systems · Almere and Blaricum

For Bergnet, EPowerOne has realized large solar projects, including the solar power systems at the Almere and Blaricum locations. These projects form an important part of our experience with energy supply for companies.

The completion also included coordination regarding registration and preparation for inspections. At both locations, insight into the installation was available via monitoring. In addition to these projects, a separate assignment followed for an energy meter and power controller at the existing installation in Amsterdam.

The Bergnet projects show that our work on energy systems also has a solid foundation in commercial solar power. The combination with business consumption, charging facilities, and potential storage requires a design in which the components are aligned with each other. We incorporate this coherence into our current Building and Organization MRI and the engineering that follows.

Experience from Soleila

Large-scale solar roofs and a feasible project approach

Background: experience of founder Peter Borkens, gained during his work for Soleila

Our founder Peter Borkens worked for Soleila on large-scale solar projects. At Husa Logistics in Veendam, he handled project management and roof construction engineering. That work connected the technical possibilities of the roof with the preparation and organization of the solar project.

In addition, Peter helped set up a technical, procedural, and financeable model for the then-roof team. This involved a coherent approach in which technical feasibility, the project process, and financeability align with each other.

We take this experience with us to EPowerOne. With a solar roof, we look at the supporting structure and electrical integration, as well as how the project can be made feasible. For a broader energy system, we also involve business usage, connection, storage, and charging facilities.

In this way, our realized solar projects and our previous project experience build together into the energy systems we are developing today.

Section 5 Real Estate in Bussum

A solar carport with charging facilities on the business premises

Project type: realized solar carport and charging infrastructure, with technical partners

At Sectie5 on the Brinklaan in Bussum, EPowerOne and its partners realized a solar carport and charging facilities. The project connects the use of a parking lot with solar power, electrical distribution, metering, and charging.

In the preparation phase, we coordinated construction, cabling, inverters, charging points, and control technology. Execution required collaboration between suppliers, the construction partner, and electrical installers.

Post-installation usage is also important. When the charging facilities demanded more power from the connection, the coordination between building consumption, charging, and grid capacity became central again. This location demonstrates why an energy system must evolve with business operations.

We take this experience into our current site approach: assessing generation, storage, charging, and consumption together and aligning the control system with the available connection.

VvE De Zeven Provinciën

Power control for an existing PV installation

Project type: modification of an existing installation · Amersfoort

For VvE De Zeven Provinciën, EPowerOne, together with Van de Pol Elektrotechniek, installed a power controller for the existing solar panel system. The work also focused on communication with the inverters and gaining insight into the installation.

The assignment demonstrates how a targeted modification makes an existing energy system more controllable. It concerns the coherence between measurement, electrical installation, and control: what information is available and how is the power adjusted accordingly?

That experience fits our current Building and Organization MRI. We first investigate how the existing technology functions and what improvements are needed. This leads to a targeted intervention or a broader design for the location.

SSEB Green Heavy Lifting

From realized electrification to the next step in hoisting technology

Project status: in development · Intended pilot Grove GMK 3055

The experience with the six Aichi aerial work platforms, proprietary battery packs, and the Spierings application forms a technical basis for Green Heavy Lifting. Within this SSEB trajectory, EPowerOne is working on electric crane functions on existing equipment and research into energy recovery.

The development trajectory focuses on the Grove GMK 3055 of Van den Berg Staalbouw. We are working on electric pump supply, demand-driven hydraulics, and a modular battery system with associated control. The crane functions on the construction site form the development scope; the driving function is treated separately.

In addition, we are investigating how energy can be recovered from lowering a load. The actual hoisting cycle determines how much energy is available and which technology is suitable for this. A hydraulic buffer is being assessed as an additional research variant.

The trajectory includes machine research, engineering, and testing of components and system functions. Operating time, energy recovery, and efficiency are tested in the project configuration. In this way, we build on realized technology and develop new possibilities for heavy equipment.
